SILVER SPRING, Md. - Donna Kerr's Haunted Garden opened Friday night and hundreds of people flocked to the elaborate displays that surround her house in the Seven Oaks neighborhood of Montgomery County.
Under a compromise decision from a District Judge, Kerr may invite the public onto her property only on two nights: October 25th and 26th.
Some neighbors had complained about traffic from earlier years, and county officials tried to shut down the enterprise on the grounds that it was commercial activity.
Kerr testified that she used the newsletter for her company, Pure Power Real Estate, to invite 12,000 households to her celebration of the Halloween season.
County officials posted NO PARKING signs on one side of nearby streets so that regular traffic and emergency vehicles could navigate through the neighborhood. Volunteers with flashlights directed traffic to nearby parking areas.
